1. |
Avoid sites that do not provide information about the company, including an address and a phone number to contact if you have a problem. |
2. |
Do not buy from an online pharmacy that offers to sell you a prescription medication without a prescription from your doctor. But in some countries it is difficult to get prescriptions but you urgently need your medications, in such situation try this Generic Pharmacy with excellent customer's satisfaction record. |
3. |
Do not buy from an online pharmacy that offers to prescribe a medication for the first time without a physical exam. |
4. |
Spend time looking over the website and figure out how long they've been in business and what their policies are on shipping, ordering, etc. |
5. |
Look for verified seals that are recognized by country from which you are ordering medication (VIPPS, PharmacyChecker.com, MIPA, IMPAC, CIPA rx). These seals are according to the country you reside. |
6. |
Find out whether or not a pharmacist is available to assist you with your pain medication order and to answer questions. |
7. |
Ask the company you are dealing with if they not only take the orders but ships them as well, fraudulent companies usually do not ship. |
8. |
Ask for the expiration date of the medication you are buying to avoid buying outdated medicine. |
9. |
Avoid offers that look too good to be true, they likely are. Buying medication online can be cheaper but high discounts (80%+) are not realistic and should be questioned. |
From FDA magazine : Use Caution Buying Medical Products Online By Michelle Meadows
"Get prescription drugs fast--no doctor needed! Cure cancer with herbs! Zap your pain away with an amazing device! Absolutely safe--pull out your credit card NOW, and get rock-bottom prices.
It's not hard to find statements like these floating around in cyberspace. "And if they sound too good to be true, it's because they usually are," says Rich Cleland, assistant director of the Division of Advertising Practices at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Many legitimate Web sites bring customers health products with the benefits of convenience, privacy, and, sometimes, cheaper prices. "But consumers need to be aware that the Internet has also created a marketplace for unapproved medical products, illegal prescribing, and products marketed with fraudulent health claims," says William Hubbard, associate commissioner for policy and planning at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). "

When Using an Online Pharmacy:
Follow these guidelines from the FDA:
(a) |
Meet with your doctor to obtain any new prescription. |
(b) |
Buy only from sites that require prescriptions from a physician or other authorized health care provider and that also verify each prescription before dispensing the medication. |
(c) |
A written verification policy is usually posted on the site. |
(d) |
Know from whom you are buying. |
(e) |
Buy only from legitimate sites. |
(f) |
Look for easy-to-find and understand privacy and security policies. |
In the end, buying medications online can be both convenient and cost effective. Caution should be exercised when deciding on an online pharmacy to purchase from but this goes without saying and applies to anything you buy on the internet.
